The Perfect 3-Day Cotswolds Itinerary: What to See, Do & Eat
Charming stone villages, historic country houses, and the beautiful city of Bath — a firsthand three-day guide to one of England's most beloved regions, including the best hotels, restaurants, and what not to miss.
The Cotswolds hold a special place in my heart — we have family in nearby Bath, and over the years our visits centered around time with them rather than sightseeing. This trip was different. Our family was in the States while we were in Bath, giving us the perfect opportunity to explore the region properly for the first time. It felt like seeing somewhere familiar with completely fresh eyes — and what we discovered was even more beautiful than I'd expected.
Take an overnight flight and arrive in the UK first thing in the morning. Rent a car at the airport and head straight to the Cotswolds — staying active on arrival day is the best jet lag remedy. Your first stop: Bourton-on-the-Water, often called "The Venice of the Cotswolds." Take a stroll along the canals, grab a pasty from The Cornish Bakery, and don't miss the Model Village — a miniature replica built using the same Cotswold stone as the real village. It's charming in a way that genuinely surprised me.
Next, head to Stow-on-the-Wold for lunch at The Porch House — believed to be the oldest inn in England — then wander the streets and pop into the lovely independent shops. Tonight, check into Estelle Manor or Cowley Manor — two exceptional but very different properties. I'd love to help you decide which fits your style.
After breakfast, head to Bibury — one of the most photographed villages in England. Walk the path around the peaceful pond and visit the charming trout farm with its beautiful gardens. Then continue to Cirencester, "the Capital of the Cotswolds," for lunch at The Fleece pub and a stop at the excellent Corinium Museum to explore the town's Roman past.
In the evening, check into The Manor House Hotel in Castle Combe — absolutely stunning, nestled in one of England's most beautiful villages. Dine in their exquisite restaurant or alfresco in the garden, then end the day with a craft cocktail at the bar.
Begin with breakfast at The Manor House and a stroll through the manicured gardens before checking out. Then head to Bath — a city that holds a very special spot in my heart, and I know you'll fall in love with it too.
- Roman Baths & Museum — One of the best-preserved Roman sites in Europe. Allow at least two hours and read every exhibit
- River Avon boat tour — A relaxing way to see Bath's stunning Georgian architecture from the water
- The Circus — The famous Georgian crescent made even more well-known by Bridgerton
- The Ivy Bath Brasserie — Try the rooftop if weather permits. Excellent food and a beautiful setting
- Ben's Cookies — Non-negotiable. The warm chocolate chunk cookie will ruin all other cookies for you
End your Cotswolds trip with a night at the Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa in Bath — one of the city's most iconic addresses and the perfect place to reflect on a wonderful three days.

Practical Tips
- Roads are very narrow in places — book an automatic if you're not used to UK driving
- Many excellent hotels here don't have air conditioning — fans are provided and evenings are cool
- Best time: April–October; spring wildflowers and summer greenery are spectacular
- Book restaurant reservations well in advance, especially Manor House and Royal Crescent
- Consider shoulder season (April–May or September–October) for fewer crowds and lower prices
